Systemic Perspective
Change has to be seen from many different perspectives. After all we live in a multi-dimensional world. The new sciences are showing us is that everything is 'messy' but connected to everything else - but not always in an easily understood way. Yet we continue to put our faith in control, and impose scientific coherence on our world. But we cannot deny the power of the nervous system, our ability to think or our conscious mind.
Every part of a living system contributes to the viability of the whole, even though this may not always be apparent. Take one part away and it reduces the adaptability and sustainability of the whole system. Indeed, it also impacts on the bigger systems it is part of. Living systems exist because they are composed of smaller systems and contained within larger ones. We are systems within systems. The human system is my system in focus.
In addition to focusing on a pragmatic (operational) and ontological (tactical) perspective of how we live as human beings, the systemic domain is now unfolding as we discover more and more connections between larger systems (our outer space) and smaller systems (our inner space). We are learning more by exploring the similarities and differences between cosmos and psyche, observation and belief, individualism and collectivism, science and spirituality, etc.
In this section I draw on the contribution made by the following perspectives to aid our understanding of human dynamics. More will be added over time.
In the systemic domain we know that whatever we change will affect everything else. We are making things happen by integrating diverse perspectives and discovering new possibilities for action. It is turning ignorance into wonder and curiosity about new ways of being and doing. It's about integration, holism, coherence, complexity and spirituality.
